TV Network Refuses To Mark Coleman Death Anniversary

Gary Coleman's former manager Vic Perillo has been left disgusted by U.S. TV executives after they refused to mark the anniversary of the tragic actor's death on Saturday.

The Diff'rent Strokes star died on 28 May, 2010 and Perillo has been urging network bosses at NBC, the channel which aired the hit 1980s sitcom, to remember Coleman by running a special tribute this week (begs23May11).

But his request was ignored by NBC heads and Perillo is astonished by their apparent disregard for Coleman, one of the most beloved child stars of his generation.

In a statement issued to WENN, Perillo says, "Gary was exclusive to NBC... He kept NBC in the top ten shows during the 1980's. The late President of Entertainment Brandon Tartikoff personally heralded Gary as responsible for keeping the network in the top ten.

"Network producers and chief executive officers at NBC have responded with, 'We don't have time. We don't want to set a precedent,' and 'We are not interested'.

"I have asked that a simple 10 second picture flashed on the screen of the Today show be shown with an inscription, 'In memoriam to one of NBC's Family'... They could care less."

Construction disputes are a common occurrence, often the direct result of miscommunication between a contractor and the client. When the work has not been performed up to the client?s standard or request, a failure to pay for services may ensue. In some cases, the contractor dispute may be due to a failure to perform or the result of a finished product that did not meet the safety code rules and regulations. Sometimes the dispute is regarding costs shooting over budget or failure of the client to understand the written estimate. Whatever the causation, contracting disputes can be a messy situation and may require legal action from one or both parties. Due to the cost of general construction, hiring an attorney may be the best solution to handle your case with arbitration or mediation to ensure that you recover the maximum amount of money in a timely manner.

Mediation.

Mediation is an out of court remedy that brings the disgruntled parties together with a third party who listens to both sides of the argument. The mediator must remain neutral and offer suggestions of resolution, and can spare both sides the time and money of going to trial. The mediator should be well-versed in this particular area of law and able to determine if a settlement would stand up in court. Although the mediator will offer valuable legal advise and commentary, he or she is not acting with judicial powers to settle a claim. Both parties can benefit greatly from using an unbiased third party to bring the legal details to light and resolve the issue in a fair and equitable decision.

Another Samsung WiFi Galaxy Tab 10.1 hits the FCC, this time dubbed GT-P7310

This week brought news that Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 would be released into the wild in just a few days. Today, a WiFi tablet from the Korean company made its way through the FCC bearing model number GT-P7310. Which, you see, is slightly different from the GT-P7510 moniker we saw in another FCC filing earlier this month, and this ended up being the limited edition 10.1 passed out at Google I/O. While some may think that this could well be the 8.9-inch version of Sammy's Android tablet, the above drawing is actually identical to the previous one bar the extra text at the bottom, so our money's on 10.1 again -- maybe this variant is destined for other countries? We shall see.

Update: A bit more digging found a pair of 10.1-inchers demonstrated in Monaco with models listed as the GT-P7300 (a WiFi plus 3G Galaxy Tab 10.1) and GT-P7310, which, you guessed it, is a WiFi-only version.

More than 70 influential business and community leaders joined Who's Who Publishing last Friday at the Detroit Athletic Club to help kick-off preparation for the fifth anniversary edition of Who's Who in Black Detroit. The small, intimate gathering allowed some of Detroit's powerbrokers to come together to celebrate a publication that will for the first time highlight African American philanthropy in Detroit.

Philanthropy has always been an important endeavor for the city, and the fifth edition of Who?s Who in Black Detroit will shine a much-deserved spotlight on those who have given of their time, energy and resources.

Associate publisher Cathy Nedd said it is a long overdue tribute.

"The generosity in Detroit needs to be celebrated," she said. "I've worked with many people in this city who have opened their personal checkbooks to give $10,000, $25,000, even $50,000 of their own money to charitable organizations that help the community."

Jon E. Barfield, president and chairman of The Bartech Group, is slated to write the foreword to the fifth edition. Linda Forte, senior vice president at Comerica Bank is writing the introduction.
Barfield, who was highlighted in the second edition of Who's Who in Black Detroit in 2007, shared his thoughts on the importance of philanthropy in his life.

"I'm grateful that I learned early on from my parents the value of philanthropy, the value of giving back to others and reinvesting in the community," he said. "My dad made philanthropy a priority at our business when he founded Bartech more than 30 years ago."

Barfield also took a moment on Friday to acknowledge Roy Roberts and his wife Maureen for their recent seven-figure contribution to the Detroit Institute of Arts, as well as Mr. Roberts' new appointment as the emergency financial manager of the Detroit Public Schools.

"Giving back is clearly Roy's motivation for his new assignment leading the DPS," he said. Barfield even touched on why he and his wife, Vivian, chose to get involved in helping the DPS. "We decided it's not good enough to sit on the sidelines and leave DPS students on their own as the restructuring of the school system moves forward."

The Skillman Foundation has been moving things forward with its charitable giving since its inception in 1960. Carol Goss, the Foundation's president and CEO, believes that many individuals are involved in philanthropy in Detroit, but don't receive the recognition they deserve.

"There are more people who are engaged in philanthropy from the black community in Detroit than we know about," she said. "That's why it's important to do a publication like Who's Who in Black Detroit that highlights black philanthropy."

The crowd on Friday also paid tribute to one of Detroit's biggest philanthropists. Businessman Don Barden passed away last week after a long illness, and the audience honored his memory by pausing for a moment of silence.

The unveiling and fifth anniversary celebration for Who's Who in Black Detroit will take place on Wednesday, August 17th at the Motor City Casino Conference Center, Detroit, Michigan.

The silver market is still reeling from its fall from $50 to $34 over a very short time. The move was driven by at least one investor selling around 1,000 tonnes of silver over a two week period. Silver had climbed quickly from around $25. The charts supported a rise to $29, but as silver went higher, it climbed out of technical range into new territory. All the time thereafter it was vulnerable to a selloff back to support around that level.

Many felt it could easily fall to $20 before recovering, but it bounced off $32 and has been consolidating above $34 since then. The selling then stopped and buying started, but the consolidation at this level indicates that the market has to get used to these prices for a while before they establish a ?floor' that permits cautious buyers to re-enter the market again.

More than 1,000 migrants who fled fighting in Libya have been left without shelter in the Tunisian desert after locals burned and looted a refugee camp near the border, witnesses have claimed.

At least five people were wounded when Tunisian soldiers opened fire on migrants fleeing Tuesday's attack on the UN-managed Choucha camp near the main crossing with Libya at Ras Ajdir, said Alganesc Fessaha, an Eritrean doctor who treated the victims.

The attack left around 1,500 residents without shelter. It reflected growing resentment among Tunisians against the migrants, mainly workers from Eritrea, Somalia and Ivory Coast.

Tensions between the two groups came to a head after refugees blockaded the road to the border to protest against being held in the camp, four miles from the border.

Locals then attacked the protesters with clubs and iron bars before Tunisian troops fired teargas and warning shots in an attempt to break up the fighting.

But a mob of about 300 Tunisians then attacked the camp, burning down about half the tents, Fessaha told the Guardian.

"Eritreans fleeing from the camp as it burned were beaten by locals lined up and waiting with iron bars," said Fessaha, who was also attacked as she entered the camp.

Fessaha was treating the the gunshot wounds of five Sudanese men who said they had been shot by Tunisian soldiers. "The soldiers shot at us as we fled the camp," said Abu Bakr Osman Mohammed, 39, who spent three years working in Libya and two in jail for illegal immigration before escaping as the conflict started.

"It is a miracle no one was killed," said Father Sandro De Pretis, an Italian priest based in Tripoli who is involved in the aid operation.

"They came in daylight, well organised, and the army did nothing to protect the camp dwellers and may have even provided an escort as the locals burned what they could not steal. Something has to be done now for these migrants stranded in the sand."

De Pretis said the attack marked a change in the mood of Tunisians, who hitherto had offered hospitality to refugees streaming over the border, even as they struggled to rebuild their own economy after this year's popular uprising.

After first hosting Pakistanis and Bangladeshis who have now been repatriated, Choucha is now home to 3,300 Africans ? including dozens saved from a leaking boat as they tried to make the perilous sea crossing to Italy earlier this month.

"At first the Tunisians brought food to the refugees but yesterday they were out of their minds," said De Pretis.

Father Mos? Zerai, the head of an asylum seekers' organisation in Italy, said tensions in the camp had risen after a group of Sudanese men tried to rape an Eritrean woman last week.

"The Eritreans defended the girl and the Sudanese burned down their tents in revenge," he said.

Four Eritreans died on Sunday night as 21 tents burned down, triggering demonstrations over conditions in the camp.

Zerai said the roadblock was led by west Africans, including Nigerians, who are less likely to be granted asylum status and feared they would be repatriated. "They were already unhappy, but after the first fire their anger exploded," he said.Two people reportedly died in the first clashes on the road on Monday.

"The protest was very stupid, since it halted business travel," said De Pretis. "The army did nothing and the locals took the law into their own hands."

Threats by the west Africans then prompted the UN to withdraw all its staff from the camp on Monday, with one UN official describing a "general atmosphere of lawlessness in the camp".

"When the Tunisians came, the UN wasn't there," said De Pretis.

On Wednesday, officials were counting the wounded and rounding up families without shelter as apparent calm returned to the camp. The defence minister, Abdul-Karim al-Zubaidi, toured the camp as the police and military presence was strengthened.

"On Tuesday night, all the 3,000 or so people in the camp, even those who still had shelter, slept outdoors because they were terrified of being burned alive in their tents," said Fessaha.

Staff from the UN's refugee agency who were touring the camp on Wednesday could not be reached for comment.

In Geneva, spokeswoman Sybella Wilkes said: "There is a large group of refugees in the camp who have gone through hell and that is now being compounded by their insecure position there."

But according to De Pretis, the return of UN staff had done little to reassure the camp's inhabitants. "There are plenty of women and children here and we are out in the desert," said Fessaha. "You just have to say hello and you get a kilo of sand in your mouth."

Leyden Energy has announced a new lithium-ion laptop battery that is said to hold its full charge for at least three years and will be backed by a three-year warranty. This is great news (if the claims are true), since most laptop batteries really suck.

If you're a laptop user, you probably know the frustration of your laptop slowly and surely providing fewer and fewer hours of battery life. After about 12 to 18 months of use, most laptop batteries need to be replaced since they no longer hold a charge. Besides being an added cost and inconvenience, replacing batteries so often has a negative impact on the environment.

Leyden Energy says its long-lasting battery has one of the highest energy densities and run times for a lithium-ion laptop battery. For instance, the companys says the battery can be charged more than 1,000 cycles and has the ability to operate at higher-than-average temperatures.

Agriculture exports to fuel China trade goal | Business | The ...

The Kingdom aimed to increase exports to China in a bid to push bilateral trade to US$2.5 billion in 2012, Minister of Commerce Cham Prasidh said.

The minister signed an agreement with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, led by Chairman Wan Jifei, on increasing trade cooperation in Phnom Penh
yesterday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Cham Prasidh said Cambodia intended to increase its exports of agricultural products such as rice and rubber to the People?s Republic. ?We can achieve this goal [of $2.5 billion in trade] if you allow us to export more products [to] China,? he said.

Officials said yesterday the two nations had traded total goods worth less than $2 billion in 2010.

Wan Jifei, who is also President of the China Chamber of International Commerce, said he urged Cambodia to increase agriculture exports to China, but added shipping via buyers in third countries often resulted in higher prices.

?To deal with the problem, we should encourage Chinese companies to contract directly with Cambodian companies for imports,? he said

He said he was impressed by Cambodia?s economic opportunities, but highlighted two main concerns ? high electricity costs and a lack of infrastructure.

Cham Prasidh said the Kingdom will receive more power from hydroelectricity by 2012 or 2013, which will lower prices. Infrastructure was also improving, with planned completions of the Singapore-Kunmin rail link likely to boost Cambodia?s trade with China.

He also highlighted Cambodia?s cheap labour costs and duty free access into many markets worldwide, including the European Union.

The Chinese delegation had also met with Prime Minister Hun Sen earlier yesterday.

Eang Sophalleth, advisor to the Prime Minister, told reporters that China was the largest investor in Cambodia.

The Prime Minister had said China?s investments were in hydropower dams, mineral resource exploration, irrigation, and the garment industry, according to Eang Sophalleth.

?These investment projects are very vital for sustainable and long-term development of Cambodian economy,? Hun Sen had told the Chinese delegation at the meeting.

Council for the Development of Cambodia figures showed China was the largest investor in Cambodia, accounting for a cumulative US$8 billion by the end of 2010.

Rick Ross Took Failure To Sign Wiz Khalifa As 'Motivation'

Before he got to signing Wale, Meek Mill and Pill, Rick Ross was eyeing 2010 MTV News Breakthrough MC Wiz Khalifa to join his Maybach Music Group. Actually, it was on the first episode of "RapFix Live" last year where Ross first revealed his intentions to sign Khalifa.

Instead of MMG, Wiz, who was already signed to Pittsburgh indie Rostrum, took his talents to Atlantic Records, where he released his debut album, Rolling Papers, this past March. On Wednesday's (May 25) "RapFix Live," Rozay revealed to Sway that his attempts to sign the "Black and Yellow" MC were real, and when Wiz didn't sign with the rotund rapper, Ross took that as motivation.

"I actually flew Wiz down, I flew Curren$y down to my studio in Atlanta. We recorded some records, we Ustreamed, we put some fruit loops in the air, and we just kinda talked music," Ross said. "And I put the proposition out there. But at the time, Maybach Music wasn't really where we were supposed to be, which was a lot of motivation."

Rather than hold a grudge, Ricky Rozay actually applauds Wiz's decision. "The homey made a great decision, going to Atlantic Records. He's released a classic album, and I wish him much success," he told Sway. "But it also inspired me and it also reassured me that I had a certain eye. I remember when I put Wiz on the 'Super High' remix, a lot of people was like, 'Why would you put a rookie on your record?' "

In the end, seeing Khalifa's success helped Ross trust his vision and, in turn, build his MMG roster, who released their first compilation, Self Made, on Monday.

And for individuals who snore, the airway becomes partly blocked by the relaxing of the tongue. As the tongue falls back, it contacts the soft palate and uvula, which is the thin continuation of tissue that drops down from the end of the soft palate. As air is trying to move through this passageway, the partial stoppage of airflow causes the tissues to vibrate, leading to the snoring noises.

Snoring can occur even if you are a nose breather as the air coming in from the nose still passes through the area of the soft palate and uvula. So if your tongue is resting against this area while asleep, those soft tissues will still vibrate since the airflow becomes restricted.

With sleep apnea, the blockage is more serious. The key culprit is still the tongue but due to the structures ( larger tongue, smaller airway ) there is more blockage of airflow in the airway. In fact, with sleep apnea, airflow gets totally interrupted for ten seconds or longer due to either the tongue absolutely blocking the airflow or the walls of the airway from collapsing.
