Now public speaking is right up there along with fear of spiders. I don?t have a problem with spiders, however public speaking was a challenge I had to overcome.

A few years ago I was asked by one of my delegates if I could give a one-hour motivational talk to their women?s network on Confidence. I immediately said yes and then asked how many people, thinking about 30.?The answer 200!
I then had an ?outer body? experience. I remember saying ?yes that?s fine? but inside thinking ?oh my God!?
Six weeks to prepare
I spent many hours in hotel bedrooms prancing up and down practicing my talk. I visualised my audience loving the presentation, wrote down several affirmation cards, affirming how much I was enjoying the whole experience before it even happened. I am a great believer in programming the unconscious mind to see, hear and feel how you want the experience to be, positive of course!
The day came, I was in the company?s theatre (they regularly had guest speakers), ready to go. 200 people, when you?re standing on a big stage looking out, is quite scary! In fact writing this, I can feel my heart pumping faster and my hands getting clammy as I relive the experience.
The first two minutes were a blur, however I do remember the audience laughing (thankfully with me, not at me!) and then I got into the flow. One hour later I had finished and I had such an adrenalin rush. I loved it. As a result, my profile had been raised and more people wanted to attend my workshops.

What I didn?t have then was a really good, practical book on public speaking.
