ABOUT 1000 members of a church movement that was started in the Philippines arrived in Bundaberg to help with flood cleanup efforts and donate $60,000 to the relief effort.
Leading the team from the Iglesia Ni Christo (Church of Christ) was Brother Manuel Villapane.
Br Villapane said many of the church members had travelled up to 30 hours to get to Bundaberg.
At a meeting with Bundaberg Mayor Mal Forman he handed over a $20,000 donation to the relief fund.
The group also donated $20,000 each to Bundaberg North and Bundaberg East schools.
Br Villapane said the money came from offerings by church members.
"We have a foundation that helps people suffering different kinds of calamities," he said.
Church members fanned out across flood stricken areas of Bundaberg yesterday to offer their help.
They also distributed hundreds of bags containing personal hygiene items, such as soap and anti-bacterial cream.
Bundaberg East State School deputy principal Mick Brennan said it was an unbelievable donation.
"This will help us out so much," he said.
